In this online needle felting workshop, Kimberly will teach you how to sculpt the perfect crescent moon using an innovative armature, with a detailed and expressive sleeping face, layered hues and fantastic craters.

Plus you will learn how install a sturdy hanger for display and how to resize the pattern for needle felting this beautiful piece in more sizes. She also shares more color pairings for future makes!

Kimberly discovered her love for art as a child, and studied art throughout her education. Inspired by her art teachers, Harold Peterson and Patrick Eddington, Kimberly got involved in summer art workshops, and went on to study Graphic Design and Illustration at the University of Utah. While in college, Kimberly attended the Pratt Institute in Venice, Italy for a semester, where she studied art history, painting, illustration, print-making, and Venetian art techniques.

Kimberly began felting in 2011, and primarily needle felts 3D sculptures and figurines. She enjoys creating festive and holiday themed felt sculptures, incorporating a fun sense of humor into her unique figurines. Kimberly loves to include natural elements in her felt sculptures, and gives timeless expressions, details, and backstories to her creations.

Laura Ricks is from Lafayette, Indiana. She has been working with felting and fiber arts since 2017.

She particularly enjoys creating felted landscapes, which feature spectacular skies and clouds, beautiful natural scenery, and picture-perfect depth and perspective. She often draws inspiration from her rural Indiana surroundings and her travels, with the ability to turn photos into felted masterpieces.

Needle felt a detailed mini meerkat who can raise up his arms and wave “hello!” Learn Irina’s methods for shading the meerkat’s striped back, fuzzy ears, and smiling face! Make tiny eyes and claws, and use Irina’s “Acrylic Impregnation” technique for fine details.

Skills you will Learn:

• How to needle felt a mini 3D Meerkat
• Use reference in shaping the Meerkat head and body details
• Felt a firm base shape for the head, and add the muzzle, nose, and cheeks, and form a smiling mouth
• Plan for where to put the polymer clay eyes on the face
• Shape the tiny Meerkat ears and attach them in the correct position on the head
• Sculpt and attach polymer clay eyes that add a simple, yet playful and emotive look to your Meerkat
• Shade details of the face, eyes, and ears to add depth and shadow detail
• Needle felt the elements of the body, including the delicate arms, legs, and tail that will all be assembled together
• Felt a firm body in which to insert the armatured limbs
• Assemble the limbs and tail securely to the body

Skills you will Learn:

• Needle felt a wide-open mouth cavity that you can insert a peanut or acorn into to feed your hungry hamster!
• Shape the individual elements of the hamster head like his pointy nose and puffy cheeks, and assemble them all together
• How to plan for the Hamster’s eyes, needle felt sockets, and tint with pastels
• Attach expressive polymer clay eyes
• Detail the Hamster’s face, nose, ears and all with fine felting and shading techniques

Felt a fantastic little fox with a smiling face, a fuzzy fur coat, and beautiful shading details! His head tilts from side to side, his muddy paws are posable, and his bushy tail follows him everywhere he goes!

Skills you will Learn:

• Needle felt this adorable fox sculpture that fits in the palm of your hand!
• Create all the details of the head, like a pointy muzzle, clay nose and eyes, angled ears, and a smiling face
• Make felted eyelids and incorporate clay eyes into the fox’s face and to give him a sly mischievous look
• Shade the details of the head with pastels, and blend it right into the wool for a more realistic look
• Build the bulk of the fox’s body and chest to serve as a solid foundation for all other pieces.
• Needle felt the limbs and insert armatures into them to make them posable, so that the fox can appear to walk or stand up
• Make a bushy tail with a white tip, and use armatures in the tail for additional balance
• Assemble the limbs and tail to the fox body, securing them seamlessly, and needle felt the entire sculpture firm
• Continue to shape the fox’s body and add details
• Create the smooth color transition from the while belly to the red-orange body
• Attach the head to the body so that the little fox can move his head to look different ways
• Give the fox a furry texture for a coat of fur
• Shade the paws, and pose the limbs in a few positions to give different effects
