Nuno felt a custom-fitting jacket that features beautiful silk embellishments, gorgeous textures, cuffed sleeves, a collared neckline, and one-of a-kind handmade design! No sewing required!

Skills you will Learn:

• How to nuno felt a stunning, well-fitted jacket that is perfectly sized!
• Follow Charity in taking your own measurements, and from them create a jacket pattern that accounts for shrinkage during the felting process, and results in a perfect fit!
• Create a felting resist using the jacket pattern, and learn how to factor in the overlap in the front of the jacket during layout and felting
• Learn how Charity is able to layout and felt this large jacket in segments, working with limited table space
• Discover how the direction of the wool layout impacts the shrinkage of the jacket, and use this to your advantage in planning for different jacket elements
• Combine wool fiber and silk fabric of beautiful colors that complement the jacket layout and create a cohesive look
• Get ideas for how to embellish this large garment that wrap around edges, create interest, and tell a beautiful felted story
• Consider how embellishments can effect the shrinkage of the jacket, and learn what to watch for while felting, rolling, and fulling to get the desired effects
• Explore a few jacket options that Charity has made in preparation, and get ideas on which elements, embellishments, and closures you would like to incorporate into your jacket.
• Get guidance on which silk fabrics are best to use in this project, both as a base for your nuno felting, and as embellishment and design layers on top of the wool.
• Discover Charity’s method for creating a reinforced, strong edge to your jacket’s edges.
• Add an optional collar to the jacket, and blend in the design seamlessly
• Learn how Charity uses a sander to speed up the felting process, and what other options you can use for felting.

Meet the Instructor:

Charity van der Meer

Charity van der Meer-Musoma was born in and grew up in Zambia. She is a fashion designer specialized in hand-made ecological garments, and graduated as a Fashion and Knitwear Designer from Nottingham Trent University of Art and Design (UK) in 2002. Charity moved to the Netherlands in the same year, where she continues to work in fashion and design independently.

“Felt has given me a chance to express myself beyond the conformity of the traditional felt making and dress making. There are endless possibilities and I am constantly researching new materials and new techniques. All material I use will tell their own story through my pieces.”

Today, Charity’s contemporary designs are inspired by nature itself. Her mission is to create unique, natural, sustainable and wearable garments and to share this with others around the world. To produce her collections, Charity uses new ideas and techniques that are inspired by nature and uses durable and ecological products.

Her label Sharit – which comes from “Share It” – embodies Charity’s passion for sharing her creativity and knowledge with others and to inspire them and stimulate their creative thoughts.

Charity travels all around the world teaching felt fashion and felt techniques. Her contact with so many cultures encourages her ideas and inspires her towards new creations. Her dream of sharing is her reality and this has led her to invest in this new online way of sharing her passion.
