Combine needle and wet felting into a gorgeous landscape scene that features a striking waterfall cascading over a mossy rock ledge into a pool below, with layered trees and forest foliage receding into the the background

Skills you will Learn:

  • Combine needle felting and wet felting techniques to create a gorgeous 2D landscape scene that features a flowing waterfall
  • Learn how to lay out a base of fibers for strong background color and structure
  • Design major scene elements prior to wet felting such as the mossy rock wall, the layered trees and forest foliage, and the shoreline below the waterfall
  • Blend fibers and colors together to create visually stunning color and dynamic details that convey light, shadow, and depth.
  • Place major design elements in your scene that draw the eye and guide the viewer through the scene
  • Learn Laura’s tried and true wet felting methods, including how to get perfect edges and shrink the piece to just the right size.
  • Touch up the trees, foliage, shoreline, and rock wall after wet felting, making any adjustments and highlights as needed
  • Needle felt the flowing water that falls down the rock ledges and cascades down into the water pool below.
  • Discover how Laura achieves the effect of flowing water, and how different techniques in needle felting serve different design purposes

Laura Ricks

Laura Ricks is from Lafayette, Indiana. She has been working with felting and fiber arts since 2017.

She particularly enjoys creating felted landscapes, which feature spectacular skies and clouds, beautiful natural scenery, and picture-perfect depth and perspective. She often draws inspiration from her rural Indiana surroundings and her travels, with the ability to turn photos into felted masterpieces.
